The Red Fort is also known as Lal Qila and is located in the center of the city. It is one of the most impressive examples of historical architecture, and one of the most popular destinations for tourists of many countries.
Taking care that it remains a cultural heritage of the country, the Indian government maintains it from time to time. On the Yamuna river bank in 1648, it was built by Shah Jahan, the Mughal ruler at that time.
The Salimgarh Fort is located near the New Delhi. On the Independence Day of India, the Prime Minister unfurls the national flag here. Within the Red Fort are several beautiful structures (like Rang Mahal or Palace of Colors, Mumtaz Mahal, Khas Mahal hammam, Nahar-e-Bishisht canal of Paradise etc). A red stone has been used to construct it, and it was designed by a highly qualified and professional architect. The War Memorial Museum is housed on the first floor.
In the northern section of the city is the Sheesh Mahal (meaning Sheesh-mirrors and mahal-palace). A special room with well-built Khas Mahal is used by the Emperor for private purposes like sleeping or worship. Among the great palaces of Mughal times is the Red Fort of Delhi, the biggest of Mughal palaces, and also a place where lively gatherings and feasts were performed.
